Tummy tuck surgery is performed by removing the extra fat and skin in the abdominal area and tightening abdominal muscles and tissues. There are two types of tummy tuck surgery: full tummy tuck and mini tummy tuck. Mini tummy tuck is performed only in the area below the navel (belly button) to remove the excess skin and tighten the lower abdominal area.

The patient is given general anaesthesia for the procedure. The surgeon makes an incision similar to a C-section in the lower area of the abdomen and a circular incision around the navel (belly button). The excess saggy skin in the abdomen is removed and if needed, the internal abdominal muscles are tightened giving the tummy a flat and firm look. The navel is repositioned. After this process, drains may be placed into necessary regions to take out oedema and the incisions are closed with aesthetic absorbable stitches.

A small amount of tingling for the first days, bruising around the incisions and swelling or oedema for a few weeks is normal. In the 1st week, your abdomen may feel tense. You may also have oedema in your incision regions, this is totally normal. It will gradually start to feel softer and oedema will totally subside in 3 months and tissues will become normal. The results will settle only 3-4 months after your tummy tuck surgery. Your scars will be pink at least for the first months and then fade from pink to your skin colour.
